According to GMC's 2009 GHG Emissions Inventory, purchased electricity contributes 17.6% of campus emissions. Total electricity emissions equal 1,063 MTCO2e.
New efficiency measures are helping GMC reduce emissions from electricity. Projects include: 200+ occupancy sensors across campus, LED lighting retrofits on all building exteriors, replacement of gym lighting and vending misers on all campus vending machines.
Buildings and operations affect how much electricity we use on campus, and so does individual action. You can help reduce the plug-load in your working and living space by turning off and unplugging appliances and chargers when not in use.
