This combined heat and power facility was built to shift 85% of fuel oil usage to biomass in the form of locally sourced woodchips. It is only necessary to burn oil on the coldest days of the year. Through co-generation, it uses waste steam to provide electricity to campus as well. This facility has enabled GMC to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions significantly, and achieve climate neutrality in 2011. |
